The Philippines is divided into three
large island groups Visayas, Luzon and Mindanao. Visayas consists of
several smaller islands surrounding the Visayan sea which are
Negros, Cebu, Bohol, Leyte and Samar.
Visayas is also divided into three administrative regions and
centres known as ‘Western Visayas’ (Iloilo City), ‘Central Visayas’
(Cebu City) and ‘Eastern Visayas’ (Tacloban City).
It’s not possible to discuss the Visayas without discussing the city
of Cebu. Cebu is the most densely populated island in the republic
with a population of nearly three million people and is also the
oldest city in ‘The Philippines’.
Due to its geographical position, making it the most accessible
place to all other destinations in the country, Cebu is the economic
centre of both the Visayas and The Philippines.
Cebu boasts the oldest street in the country, Colon Street, Central Cebu
National Park and a summer temperature high of 37 degrees, making
Cebu a major tourist destination for visitors from overseas.
